The Productivity Institute’s 2026 Conference brought together researchers, policymakers and business leaders for two days of discussion on the opportunities and challenges shaping the UK’s productivity performance. Day one, the Academic Conference, explored the latest research on topics including business investment, leadership, technology adoption, regional growth and innovation. The Policy Conference on Day two, delivered in partnership with the Industrial Strategy Advisory Council (ISAC), focused on how evidence can inform policy and support the delivery of long-term economic growth.
Across both days, a number of common themes emerged. Discussions highlighted the importance of industrial strategy, place, skills and investment, alongside the need to accelerate the adoption of new technologies and support businesses to scale and grow.
A recurring message was that productivity challenges cannot be addressed in isolation. Progress depends on stronger connections between people, institutions, sectors and regions, and on ensuring that research is translated into practical action.

The conference demonstrated the value of bringing together different perspectives to tackle shared challenges. From academic insights and business experience to policymaking and implementation, speakers and delegates explored how evidence can help shape better decisions and support growth across the UK. As these conversations continue, the ideas and relationships developed over the two days will help inform future research, policy and practice.

Exploring the latest evidence on productivity and growth, the Academic Conference showcased new research and emerging ideas on the factors shaping business performance, innovation, investment and regional development.

Delivered in partnership with ISAC, the Policy Conference explored how evidence can be translated into action to support industrial strategy, drive economic growth and improve productivity outcomes.
