The Productivity Institute is a UK-wide research organisation dedicated to understanding and addressing the country’s longstanding productivity challenges. Through rigorous interdisciplinary research and close collaboration with businesses, policymakers, and institutions, we aim to lay the foundations for sustainable and inclusive productivity growth.

Headquartered at the Alliance Manchester Business School, our work spans regions, sectors, and disciplines to identify barriers to productivity and develop evidence-based solutions.

We explore key themes such as investment, skills, innovation, business practices, and public policy, ensuring our insights inform decision-making at local, regional, and national levels.

Our research is brought to life through our Productivity Forums, the Productivity Commission, and partnerships with leading institutions.

We engage with businesses and policymakers to translate research into real-world impact, helping drive economic growth and improve living standards across the UK.

The Productivity Institute is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and collaborates with a network of leading universities and industry partners.
