Dr. Steven Bond-Smith is an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaiʻi Economic Research Organization (UHERO) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. He is also a co-editor for the journal Spatial Economic Analysis and a member of the Shadow Joint Analysis Development Panel for the UK Department for Transport. Steven is an urban and regional economist with a research focus on the effects of spatial factors on productivity. He has authored over 60 journal articles, book chapters, editorials, and outreach reports, including publications in the Journal of Economic Geography, Economic Development Quarterly, Scottish Journal of Political Economy, Spatial Economic Analysis, Economics of Innovation and New Technology, Cities , and the Journal of Economic Surveys, among others. His work contributes to policy discussions with high-level government officials in Hawaiʻi, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Prior to joining UHERO, Steven was a Senior Research Fellow in Economics at Curtin University in Western Australia and was previously employed in various government, corporate, and consulting roles in Australia and New Zealand.
