Career

Royce’s focus is on policy analysis, which has focused largely on economic regeneration and social inclusion. He has worked on coalfield regeneration, cultural capital and local economic competitiveness, and on Gypsies, their political and media portrayal, their position in society and economy. He is a developer of social measurement tools, exemplified in the co-authorship of the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s Good Relations Measurement Framework. His work has straddled the business and the academic, incorporating steel sales management in large scale manufacturing industry, and founding and running a successful socio-economic applied research and training SMEs. This has allowed for the development of synergistic insights into realistic appraisals of the design, formulation, implementation, and outcome of different types of policy and organisational behaviour, and has found practical application in the creation and execution of practical enhancement projects relating to employment and English language assistance for marginalised and vulnerable groups, in a modest contribution to the creation of a socially inclusive economy. He has authored policy reports for central government agencies and departments including the DWP, JobcentrePlus; for local authorities; for non-governmental public bodies such as the EHRC, Cafcass, Learning and Skills Council; and for voluntary and community sector bodies such as Age UK and British Red Cross.
