Career

David’s research focuses on regional and public economics, alongside economic and financial history. He is particularly interested in the economics of devolution, and how decentralised policymaking affects regional economic performance. His current research agenda includes examining the long-run performance of Northern Ireland’s economy, and how this has been shaped by institutions and policy, including the reasons for persistently low levels of productivity in the region.

David is a Research Associate at the Queen’s University Centre for Economic History, an Associate Fellow of the Queen’s University Institute of Irish Studies and the Northern Ireland Productivity Forum Contact.
